I waited six hours outside jail to meet Sanju

Sanjay Dutt's wife Manyata touched many a heart at the Hindustan Times Leadership Summit Saturday as she recalled her travails when the Bollywood actor was behind bars.

Dutt was convicted for illegal arms possession in the run-up to the 1993 serial bombings in Mumbai was sent to the high-security Arthur Road jail in that metropolis last year - the last of the four occasions he was jailed.

"Initially, I wasn't allowed to meet him. Then I called up Satish (Maneshinde, Dutt's lawyer) and I said I want to meet Sanjay. I just drove and I waited for six long hours outside the Arthur Road jail and finally I got to meet him for 10 minutes, " Manyata said. She was speaking during an interactive session, "Leadership Lesson from Munnabhai" - titled so after Dutt's iconic character from the hit films "Munnabhai MBBS" and "Lage Raho Munna Bhai" - as the actor recounted his trials and turbulations.

Manyata, who was not married to Dutt at that time, recalled: "It was a thin net between both of us and another net barrier after three feet of space so that one can't even touch or feel a person.

There was a small yellow bulb in the closed room. I couldn't see anything so I asked him to stand beneath the light, like under a spotlight, so that I could at least see him.

"I tried my best to be strong but I couldn't and I collapsed and Satish had to take me back home, " she said.

Manyata took the opportunity to slam the media. "Thanks to the press, I couldn't go to the jail. I was mobbed and they were writing funny things about me. I was asked to stay back at home and not to accompany him to the court.

"There should be a code of conduct for the media because they are given unnecessary rights. They can write and destroy a person - they can make you what they want to make you. They come with a pre-set mind if they are anti- you.

"A line should be drawn and there should be a law where you can sue a person for writing s*** about you without knowing you. People are written off like villains because of them, " she said.

Bollywood News - Dostana's special screening for gays

Harish Iyer is glad he saw Dostana not surprising as the film helped Harish open up about his sexuality to his 13-year-old sister. the film I told her that I was gay. For a moment there was complete silence and then she asked me are you gay like Abhishek or John?," said Harish Iyer, Event Manager.

Unlike many others who saw this laugh riot, Dostana left Shobha Joshi feeling emotional. She identified completely with Kirron Kher's character in the film who plays Abhishek Bachchan's mother. Shobha's gay son has found his partner in the United States. "I was very happy when my son found his life partner. In fact I am very attached to him now. I feel like my family is complete now," said Shobha Joshi, housewife.

With constant feedback of how many people have been touched by the film director Tarun Mansukhani feels overwhelmed.

"It's so overwhelming when you hear so many stories. I'm so happy that I went ahead with this script," said Tarun Mansukhani, Director.

Harish Iyer, Shobha Joshi are not just the two lives that have been touched by the film. As Dostana continues to bring in the crowds, the filmmakers hope it encourages more acceptance and openness with a little laughter along the way.

I don't mind playing a lesbian says Priyanka

Bollywood Actress Priyanka Chopra seems to be getting bolder by the day. Whether it be her look in her last films, or the characters and the kind of films she is opting for, she seems to be eyeing the numero uno crown. And no, no dumb glam-doll kind of roles for her, she has made that pretty clear through her no-nonsense interviews in the recent past. She made a point on gay rights too when she told us in a recent chat that they have equal rights to live a dignified life. And now, the actress gives out yet another statement - that she has no qualms playing a lesbian character if offered. After all, according to Piggy Chops sexual preference is a matter of personal choice. "Why not, I would definitely play a lesbian role, provided the film has a good script and the role demands so," says Chopra when asked if she'd accept such a role now that both her last films – 'Fashion' and 'Dostana' - have a gay factor in them.

We have seen men playing gay characters many a time in Bollywood films but women doing the role of a lesbian have been rare. Perhaps the only film that most of us would recollect (or not) is the Eesha Koppikhar- Amrita Arora starrer 'Girlfriend' that ended up in controversies for some bold scenes and also bombed badly at the box-office.

But with Priyanka Chopra willing to play a lesbian character, the million dollar question is, who among the top actresses will play a lesbian partner to her? Certainly not Kareena Kapoor, given their not-so-great rapport and Priyanka may not want to pair up with Katrina Kaif for her non-existing acting skills! That leaves us with Kangana Ranaut, but rumours have it that the two did not get along so well on the sets of 'Fashion'. So we asked Priyanka herself who would be her preferred choice, and she shot back, "How can I decide, that's up to the filmmakers." Well, we leave it up to the filmmakers too. Any names, guys?

Abu Salem's comments don't affect me: Monica Bedi

Her closeness to Rahul Mahajan on reality TV show "Bigg Boss" had reportedly unnerved her ex-beau Abu Salem, but actress Monica Bedi is unfazed. She says his comments and reactions don't make any difference to her.

"Monica Bedi is out of her past. Abu's (Salem) reactions to anything won't affect me and they are never going to come in the way of my career," Monica told IANS over phone from Mumbai."My past is my past. I will never go back to it. I respect Abu and the relationship we shared, but I have left it behind. It's been a long time now. For me it is all over and I'm ready to start life afresh," she said.

Monica had told her "Big Boss" housemates that she is not married to Salem. But the jailed mobster had apparently taken offence and had issued a notice to her, claiming that she is still his legal wife. He said that they had got married in a mosque in Los Angeles in November 2000.

Though Monica did roles in movies like "Jodi No.1", "Jaanam Samjha Karo" and "Pyaar, Ishq Aur Mohabbat" in her short-lived Bollywood career, she shot to limelight when her affair with Salem became public. She was arrested with the underworld crimelord in Portugal and they were extradited together in 2005.

After months in jail, Monica made a comeback of sorts with her surprise entry on "Bigg Boss" with an aim "to start life afresh".

During her stint on the show, Rahul Mahajan, son of late Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Pramod Mahajan, made romantic advances towards Monica on several occasions, but she used to walk away to avoid "unnecessary speculation in the media". But now she appreciates "his love".

"Rahul has a 'bacha' (child) in him, he is very patient and doesn't get irritated quickly. I really like these qualities about him and respect his feelings for me. He is slightly mad, but not bad," Monica said.

After being voted out of the show in the third week itself, Monica made a wild card entry in the eighth week.

She was hesitant in reciprocating Rahul's advances when she returned on the show because of his closeness with actress Payal Rohatgi - something that she saw on screen after her first eviction.

"When I saw Rahul and Payal from outside, I was very confused about his feelings for me. I didn't want to come in between them. Then I confirmed thrice with Payal. She told me that they are just friends and have no future together as she is very focussed towards her career," Monica said.

Now Monica shares a close friendship with Rahul, but says it's too early to talk about commitment and marriage.

"I couldn't commit to him on the show. I need time. Things might change when he comes out because I'll get to know the real Rahul only then. Besides, I want to work right now and re-establish myself in the industry.

"I have no marriage plans for the next two-three years and whatever it is, my parents will decide my future this time. I will definitely not go against them," she said.

Monica says that her stint in "Bigg Boss" has transformed her from being "shy and reserved" to a "more talkative and confident" person.

"This show has really helped me change people's image about me and in getting work in the industry once again," she said.

The actress already has Lady Luck smiling on her. She has signed one film and will be working on two reality shows very soon, but she refused to give the details of the projects.

Rakhi's ex Abhishek & Shradha deny relationship

Both Rakhi Sawant's ex-boyfriend Abhishek Awasthi and the hot, sexy Shradha Sharma have completely denied their "relationship".

Abhishek Awasthi was livid with the article written by this journalist while Shradha Sharma's Media Manager and celebrity publicist Flynn Remedios issued a written denial saying that Shradha is not "seeing" Abhishek.

According to the written press release issued by Flynn Remedios, "Those news reports are completely false. Shradha is not dating anyone. She is very much single today." Both Abhisehk and Shradha are 'just good friends' as they are from the same industry and Shradha is concentrating on stage shows so they may be seen together on some occasions.

An irritated Shradha also further clarified that she had met Abhishek only once or twice and considers him a friend. "Since he is from the industry and is a great dancer and choreographer, I respect him and wish him all the best in his life and career. But, I am not dating or seeing him," Shradha asserted.

Shradha also stated that she is not responsible in any way for the break up between Rakhi and Abhishek. -By Maneesh Rane

Tarun Mansukhani is mighty pleased with the kind of response he is getting for the bodies that Bollywood Actors John Abraham and Priyanka Chopra have acquired for Bollywood Movie DOSTANA. Accolodes have been coming in from all quarters as both John and Priyanka ignite the heat in their pursuit for acquiring best bodies in the town.
"While John has worked hard on his physique and made sure that heads (belonging to both women and men) turn around him wherever he goes, I am not surprised since he seems to have been born with a six pack abs.

What amazes me though is the strange body that Priyanka Chopra has", says Tarun Mansukhani, debutant director who is beginning his innings with this Karan Johar production.

How exactly?

"Well, she eats so much and doesn't even work out much. Still, she manages to hold her figure. I guess it's her metabolism that allows her to be this way. With DOSTANA, she could well be termed as a sexy girl next door", smiles Tarun.

Abhishek seems to be just the same though as in all his films, isn't it?

"In fact Abhi too has gone through some transformation as he was still working on DRONA when DOSTANA began. He was in fact the fittest since even when John would be tired, he would push him to get back on his feet and face the camera", reveals Tarun.

But he doesn't seem to be flaunting his body the way John is in the film. Why is that case?

Defends Tarun, "See the film and you would know for yourself. The kind of body type that he is carrying is something like is required for the character. It is truly in conjunction with the film. In any case, Abhi is a completely changed person for DOSTANA and is looking really fantastic." - Joginder Tuteja
